History
The Buick Car Club of Australia is represented by separate clubs in four Australian States and currently are:
-
Victoria (formed in m1967)
-
New South Wales (formed in 1972)
-
Queensland (formed in 1975)
-
Western Australia (formed in 1995)
The following history is summarised below (with the kind permission of the NSW Club).
The Buick Car Club of Australia was originally formed in Melbourne. In 1972 the New South Wales branch got its start when Buick enthusiast, Peter Stean travelled to Melbourne to discuss with the members of the Buick Car Club of Australia the possibility of forming a Sydney branch.
. . a picnic gathering of Buick owners and their families was held at Prospect Reservoir in Sydney’s west on Sunday 7th May 1972. . . .the seed was sown for the formation of the Sydney Buick club . Then a meeting was held on the 16th June, 1972 in Ken Harding’s garage and the Buick Car Club of Australia, NSW Branch was formally formed
Also around 1973, John Gerdtz (from the NSW Club) met in Brisbane with Peter Symonds to discuss the formation of a Queensland branch, and Peter, together with other enthusiasts, adopted the procedures used by NSW to get the Queensland club under way. In recent years changes to corporation and taxation laws have seen the parent Victorian club and all state clubs reformed as individual incorporated entities however a close affiliation exists and continues between all states.
A National Meet is held every two years generally on a rotational basis between the four state clubs. The most recent National event was held at Hervey Bay to celebrate 50 years of operation of the Queensland Club and conducted by our Club over the period of 31 August through 7 September 2025 with a short after tour extending the meet for those who just wanted more!
An East Coast Meet is held on alternate years to the National Meet and is rotated between the Queensland and New South Wales Clubs.
